GAFCONM SRC WEEK - CULTURAL PERFORMANCE APRIL 2026

GAFCONM SRC WEEK - CULTURAL PERFORMANCE APRIL 2026

Published on 16th April, 2026

The GAFCONM SRC Week Cultural Performance on April 16, 2026 (afternoon) was a vibrant, well-attended success. It effectively used music, dance, fashion, and spoken word to strengthen intercultural bonds within the college. With minor logistical adjustments, this event has the potential to become the flagship afternoon activity of future SRC Weeks.

First and foremost, the event seeks to celebrate diversity by providing a platform for various cultural groups within the institution to perform. This includes but is not limited to the Ewe, Akan, Northern, Ga-Dangbe, and international student communities. By showcasing the unique music, dance, and artistic expressions of these groups, the event affirms that diversity is not merely tolerated but actively honored as a source of institutional strength.

Secondly, the program aims to enhance student engagement by offering an interactive and vibrant afternoon experience during SRC Week. Recognizing that students are often drawn to participatory and high-energy activities, the cultural performance is designed to move beyond passive observation. Through call-and-response drumming, audience dance sessions, and live demonstrations, attendees are transformed from spectators into active participants, thereby increasing overall turnout and enthusiasm for the week's broader activities.

Thirdly, the event serves as a talent showcase, specifically focused on identifying and highlighting student performance artists. These include traditional drummers, cultural dancers, spoken word poets, and costume designers who might otherwise remain unrecognized on campus. By providing a formal stage during a high-profile SRC Week session, the event offers these artists visibility, credibility, and the potential for future invitations to perform at other institutional or community functions.

Finally, the cultural performance is committed to promoting inclusivity by intentionally bridging gaps between different linguistic and regional student associations on campus. Too often, students from minority language groups or less represented regions feel isolated within the larger student body. This event creates structured opportunities for collaboration such as joint performances and intercultural dialogue segments, thereby fostering mutual respect and breaking down long-standing social barriers. In doing so, the afternoon becomes not just a display of culture, but a deliberate act of unity.

Collectively, these objectives, reinforced by the authoritative presence of Squadron Leader B. Asare, Major J. B. Yinbil, and SWO II E. E. Gauch as judges, ensured that the GAFCONM SRC Week cultural performance was meaningful, engaging, competitive, and transformative for all who attended
